Open Enrollment: Individual vs Group

Individual Insurance
During Open Enrollment, you can apply for or switch your individual insurance plan. Individual health insurance covers you, and/or your family, and is not provided by your employer. Because your plan is not connected to your employment, you can switch or quit your job without it affecting your insurance. Although these plans are usually more costly than group insurance policies, there are ways to keep the rates lower. We work with a variety of different individual insurance carriers to offer you the most options, and ensure your rates are the lowest possible, while providing the proper coverage.

Group Insurance
Even though you can apply at any time for group health insurance, Open Enrollment season is a great time to apply or make changes to your policy. It’s a popular choice to start a group plan in January because it allows for the deductible year to match the policy year. Additionally, your company is not required to contribute to the premiums and only one employee needs to enroll to establish your group insurance when you start January 1st. Group health insurance offers coverage for as small as a one person group and allows for access to lower pricing with larger networks and better plan options.
For 2024, our Illinois fully funded small group carriers are BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, Oscar, Aetna, and Cigna. The Insurance People also offer level funded plans with United Healthcare, Aetna, National General Insurance, and Nationwide.
